An Evaluation of Affective Design Principles in Smart Object Environments
Performance with variable-position 7-channel audio, 12 minutes

While reading sentences from corporate Interaction design guidelines that articulate assumptions about us as users, the artist tests how smart speakers - that respond to her movements and are dynamically positioned within the space - embody the affective logic of contemporary technology. The performance explores how sound design, through embodied cognition, shapes trust and agency between humans and devices and what kind of existential conceptions of the human are embedded within the corporate statements that describes these designs. Each sentence is treated by the artist as a site of exploration. Through movement and sound, she responds by affirming, contradicting, exaggerating, minimising, or isolating it - hereby looking for the friction as a counterforce to the smooth mono-design we often experience in daily life.
