Gesture Exhaustion Reformer (for Efficient Training)

2026

Gesture Exhaustion Reformer (for Efficient Training), Deconstructed and reassembled fitness apparatuses with custom steel and mechanical components, powder coating , 2026

Assembled from discarded fitness apparatuses bought on the second-hand market, Gesture Exhaustion Reformer (for Efficient Training) combines handles, cables, and joints into a surreal and dysfunctional training device. The work reflects on a technology-driven society shaped by protocols, optimisation, and “how-to” logic that increasingly structure everyday behaviour. Technologies instruct us to swipe, and to adapt our movements and poses to the sensors. Unlike traditional physical labour, these gestures produce little physical resistance: nothing tangible is set into motion, while the body performs increasingly abstract and repetitive actions. Over time, these gestures become ingrained in our bodies, merging seamlessly into daily routines.
